The Damned United (2009) - dir. Tom Hooper

This lovely little sports drama breaks all the rules… because it’s not really that much about football, now is it? Tom Hooper’s direction is spot-on, getting the most from Michael Sheen. Throw in the wonderful Timothy Spall and a bunch of angry British blokes from the 60s and what do you get: a great film.

It’s not perfect, but, as per usual with Mr. Hooper, it’s the best this script was ever going to be. Funny, impressive, and a great way to spend ninety-eight minutes.
