Down By Law (1986) - dir. Jim Jarmusch
It’s a film about three very different (and all innocent) prisoners who break out of jail. One’s a pimp (John Lurie). One’s an Italian immigrant (Roberto Benigni). The last is a drunk disc jockey (Tom Waits).
It’s a filme about three people two of whom are Tom Waits and Roberto Benigni. That alone should make you want to watch it. Throw in the gorgeous Criterion Collection restoration, a charming script and Jarmusch’s distinct deadpan-observant style and it’s a winner all around.
