Medium Cool (1969) - dir. Haskell Wexler

The Criterion Collection has done wonders over the years for the world of film, but, rather recently, they may have outdone themselves. The Blu Ray restoration (images above courtesy of of Wexler’s cinema-verite film is truly astounding. Using a mix of actual footage surrounding the 1968 Democratic National Convention and a loosely-scripted plot following John Cassellis (Robert Forster), Medium Cool is a unique experience and important player in the history of cinema.

That being said, its not for everyone. Cool is a triumph in its own right but definitely suffers from more than a few lulls. There are, however, more pros than cons and when its brilliant it is unmistakably so.
